The logistics network for agricultural products is instrumental in maintaining stability and guaranteeing food security for each nation. The organization and operation of logistics networks are essential issues in today's global supply chains. Many existing challenges in agricultural logistics networks need to be explored to comprehensively assess this field. Recognizing the importance of logistics networks for agricultural products based on data sources, this study collected, synthesized, and evaluated 166 academic articles from 2000 to January 2025. The main aim of this research is to provide an overview of various issues examined in the literature. Additionally, the study identifies the sustainability goals for agricultural logistics networks (economic, social, and environmental objectives). Furthermore, the study systematizes theories related to logistics networks and agricultural products. The research employs both bibliometric analysis and a systematic literature review of theoretical foundations. By combining these two methods, the study analyzes the collected literature from the Scopus database, Google, and other reliable sources. The findings indicate that research on logistics networks for agricultural products is primarily concentrated among specific authors and in notable countries such as China, the USA, Iran, and India. The main models used in the literature, including Mixed-Integer Linear Programming, Mixed Integer Programming, and Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Programming, aim to optimize cost, profit, social objectives, and environmental impact. Most studies focus on a diverse range of agricultural products such as fruits, vegetables, and meat. However, the study still has certain limitations regarding the generalizability of the issues, access to data sources, and methodologies.

  2. Organizational Buyers’ Ex-Ante Perceptions of Opportunism and Technological Uncertainty and the Resulting Impact on Seller/Supplier Outcomes
    • Imran M. Khan
This paper examines the relationship between organizational buyers’ ex-ante or pre-contract perceptions of opportunism and technological uncertainty and the resulting impact on core vendor outcomes. Specifically, the paper examines whether pre-contract perceptions of opportunism and technological uncertainty negatively affect outsourced service providers’ ability to establish a relationship with organizational buyers. Both opportunism and uncertainty have been manifested as key tenets in inter-firm exchanges. Extant literature defines opportunism as both ex-ante (pre-contract) and ex post (post-contract). However, existing research does not provide guidance on whether buyers’ ex-ante or pre-contract perceptions of opportunism and technological uncertainty adversely affect vendors’ ability to: 1) win business/contract, and 2) how it influences the post-contract buyer-supplier relationship dynamics. The research model is tested on an online panel of information technology (IT) buyers across a range of industries. Findings favor outsourced vendors in that there isn’t a relationship between buyers’ ex-ante perceptions of opportunism and their willingness-to-engage in a contractual relationship with a provider. Furthermore, while previous scholarly research stream found positive connection between technological uncertainty and willingness of buyers to work closely with suppliers, the findings of this study reveal that buyer cooperation is not automatic. It is important to note that the term vendor is rather broad-based in scope and represents a variety of inter-firm arrangements across manufacturing and services sectors, therefore, the implications of this study extend far beyond the traditional transaction cost analysis framework to include vendor selection and post-contract vendor management.

Online sellers tend to consider switching couriers due to increasing customer complaints about courier service quality. This study examined the influencing factors of online sellers’ pleasure, engagement, and switching intention in Malaysia. The study used stimulus-organism-response (SOR) theory and contributed new stimuli (access convenience, conflict handling, and co-creation)-organism (pleasure and engagement)-response (switching intention) model. The study also introduced single and sequential mediators. Furthermore, co-creation moderated engagement and switching intention. Data were collected from 389 online sellers using an online survey. The analysis included only 257 responses. The data were analysed using partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Findings show that access convenience and conflict handling positively affected pleasure, while pleasure positively affected engagement and engagement negatively affected switching intention. Moreover, co-creation positively affected engagement. Pleasure and engagement sequentially mediated access convenience and switching intention, conflict handling and switching intention. Engagement mediated co-creation and switching intention. The adverse correlation between engagement and switching intention was intensified by low co-creation. The results will aid couriers in enhancing and innovating services for customers’ pleasure and engagement. Also, the results will aid online sellers in establishing high standards for selecting the best couriers

Integrating human behavior with the demand for decisions that take into account the context of a supply chain (SC) is a research opportunity. Therefore, this study presents the way in which behavioral intelligence (BI), in the context of supply chain management (SCM), is being addressed by the literature. A systematic literature review (SLR) was used to identify and characterize the main initiatives and discussions related to BI in the SCM context. The narrative and analysis contextualize and characterize the topic by discussing, grouping, and organizing literary thought. The study indicates the possibilities for the application of BI in the training of professionals involved in relationships and operations in the SC. The article analyzes the convergence of two areas of knowledge that are rarely studied together: behavioral intelligence and supply chain management. It strengthens the possibility of companies adopting BI as a tool for professional training to obtain benefits without the manager losing their focus on the company’s interests. The theme has a direct and essential relationship with professionals’ quality of life since applying BI can improve this aspect.

Green supply chain management practices are gaining enormous attention from academics and practitioners. The global strategy to reduce the negative effect on the environment reinforces manufacturing industries to practice Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) in their operations. This paper aimsto investigate the effect of GSCM practices on environmental performance. It futher examines the mediating effect of GSCM practices in the relationship between green strategy, environmental management, green procurement, and environmental performance. In addition, this study assesses the role of procurement ethics in GSCM practices and environmental performance. A structured questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale was used to gather data from the textile garments sector in Bangladesh. The PLS-SEM technique was adopted to analyze 238 survey data. The findings demonstrate the significant direct and indirect effects of GSCM practices on environmental performance. Further, procurement ethics determine the level of relationship between GSCM practices and environmental performance. The results add to the existing pool of knowledge relevant to GSCM practices and environmental performance, particularly concerning the mediating role played by GSCM practices. Besides, procurement ethics supplement the effect of GSCM on environmental performance, which significantly contributes to the literature. Believably, the findings will facilitate the manufacturing industry and can be used as a strategic instrument for adopting GSCM practices.

This study explores and describes the potential truck-sharing constraints (physical and behavioral) for container trucks travelling empty; such empty truck trips contribute to traffic congestion, carbon emissions and transport capacity shortages at the marine container terminals of the leading ports. In this study, two case studies are presented in order to investigate the range of constraints that are involved. The truck-sharing constraints for the port are co-ordination problems between the carriers, a competitive container transportation industry that is lacking in mutual trust, in addition to the absence of the deployment of a neutral subsidiary company to take over the responsibility for the issue of empty truck trips. The constraints for a load-matching company are the diversity of the truck dispatching systems of carriers, the lack of trust between carriers, cost barriers and the weight restrictions imposed by the Government. The results of the two case studies, which have been explored in this study, can be used to persuade port stakeholders to evaluate and overcome the challenges presented by the truck-sharing constraints in the effort to reduce the number of empty truck trips.

Green global value chain (GGVC) plays a critical role in minimizing the overall ecological influences, and this article explores the role of financial systems. This paper empirically analyses the impacts of financial development (FD) on green global value chain (GGVC) management. We employ five aspects of green global value chain index score (GLIScore), including Customs Score (GGVC_CS), Infrastructure Score (GGVC_IS), International Shipments Score (GGVC_ISS), and Logistics Competence and Quality Score (GGVC_LCQ), Timeliness Score (GGVC_TLS), and Tracking and Tracing Score (GGVC_TS). Financial development encompasses the composite financial development index (FD_FD), financial institutions' development (FD_FI), financial markets' development (FD_FM), and the depth, accessibility, and efficiency of financial institutions and financial markets. Different econometric techniques are utilized in a database of 51 developing and 24 developed countries from 2001 to 2021. Our estimation results demonstrate that countries implementing FD play a critical role in managing the GGVC, especially the composite FD and financial market development activities. Furthermore, promoting the development of depth, access, and efficiency of financial markets and financial institutions has the potential to contribute significantly to the effectiveness of GGVC management, especially in promoting in-depth development. For further discussion on the role of FD, we reveal the short-run and long-run effects of FD_FD, FD_FI, and FD_FM on GGVC and compare the influence of FD on GGVC. The results suggest that the FD nexus is more likely to exist in the long run. Notably, promoting FD will enormously enhance GGVC performance in all aspects in developed and developing countries, highlighting GGVC’s performance in developing countries.

Sustainability has long been an issue of concern to society, countries, and the economy. In this context, circular supply chain management is a good strategy for reducing material consumption, reducing waste and carbon footprints, and creating recycling opportunities throughout the supply chain. To ensure the successful integration of the circular supply chain practices by the Malaysian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) businesses, it is imperative to investigate the key structures to the barriers and the main enablers that can drive its successful adoption. Thus, this study used the scoping review procedure based on the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR) involving 188 shortlisted articles. Five interconnected influential structures which are the government agencies, industry stakeholders, MSMEs management, customers and consumers, and financing institutions were identified as key roles in ensuring the successful implementation of circular supply chain practices. Subsequently, 33 barriers and 27 key enablers were identified as the catalysts for the successful adoption of circular supply chain practices by MSMEs. The circular supply chain framework is envisaged to motivate policymakers in Malaysia, as well as other interested countries, to implement the proposed framework through a greater number of supportive legislative measures as well as practical promotion and education policies to further enhance its acceptance.

Organizations are increasingly applying artificial intelligence (AI) in interorganizational systems (IOS) to mitigate demand and supply disruptions. This shift towards AI to enhance supply chain agility capabilities automates some tasks previously undertaken by boundary-spanning employees who serve as critical informational and influential links with supply chain partners. Given limited related research, we investigate the impact of AI not only on the potential displacement of boundary-spanning employee roles but also on subsequent supply chain agility. Leveraging dynamic capabilities and social network theories, we first conducted interviews with supply chain executives to develop a practitioner survey. Following a mixed-methods approach, we next applied structural equation modeling to this survey data and then probed further via follow-up interviews. The results reveal that despite displacing some employees, the use of AI in IOS enhances the remaining operational and strategic roles of the boundary-spanning employees to enrich supply chain agility. The ensuing theoretical and managerial contributions emphasize the essential role of boundary-spanning employees as part of a hybrid human-AI solution, providing insight into the need for an optimal human/AI balance in the supply chain to cope with dynamic marketplaces.

  11. Exploring The Influence of Information Exchange Determinants on Supply Chain Performance: An Empirical Study
    • Nisrine Kourt
    • Imad Ait Lhassan
In the field of supply chain management, information exchange is increasingly recognized as an intangible asset when it concerns specific operational and strategic data shared between partners. In this study, information exchange refers in particular to the sharing of demand forecasts, inventory levels, production plans, and order status updates between Moroccan manufacturing companies and their logistics partners. Organizations aim to develop such information-sharing practices to gain a comparative advantage within their supply chain, influencing the entire process, both upstream and downstream. Logistics, grounded in principles of flexibility and cost-effective adaptability, leverages accurate and timely information as a key driver for optimal performance. This paper addresses the following question: How can the exchange of specific supply chain information (e.g., demand forecasts, inventory data, production schedules) influence the supply chain performance of Moroccan manufacturing companies? A quantitative approach was employed with a positivist stance and a hypothetico-deductive reasoning framework. The study used the Smart PLS model to test the relationships between variables. Data were collected from a sample of 100 Moroccan manufacturing companies, enabling an analysis of interactions between these specific forms of information exchange and supply chain performance within the specific context of Morocco. The study’s findings reveal that targeted information exchange, particularly regarding operational and strategic supply chain data, within logistics partnerships has a positive impact on the supply chain performance of Moroccan manufacturing companies. Companies fostering structured and reliable information exchange with their logistics partners achieve superior performance, particularly in terms of flexibility, adaptability, and efficiency in logistics processes. The results confirm that specific information exchange is a critical factor in enhancing supply chain performance. By prioritizing the exchange of key supply chain information (e.g., demand forecasts, inventory levels, production and delivery data), Moroccan manufacturing companies can improve key logistical outcomes such as flexibility and efficiency, thereby gaining a competitive edge in their supply chain operations.

This study evaluates the integration of Third-Party Logistics (3PL) within hospital supply chain management under uncertain conditions, aiming to maintain service levels near 100% to prevent drug shortages and enhance patient care readiness. Employing a mixed-methods approach, it combines semi-structured interviews with logistics experts and simulations of four 3PL models for hospital Supply, Processing, and Distribution (SPD), including internal distribution (d), based on actual drug usage data. Results show that a hybrid model, which blends internal oversight with external logistics management, significantly enhances supply chain resilience and maintains optimal inventory levels. However, fully outsourcing logistics raises concerns about external control over internal drug distribution. The study concludes that integrating these 3PL/SPD models not only strengthens risk management but also adapts effectively to fluctuating demand. It offers a strategic framework for tertiary healthcare logistics, emphasizing the importance of aligning 3PL strategies with healthcare needs to optimize patient care outcomes and streamline logistics processes.

Indonesia’s automotive components industry faces unprecedented supply chain and innovation challenges, driven by the rapid adoption of Industry 4.0, the CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electric) paradigm, and intensified global trade tensions. The “Trump Trade War 2.0,” marked by a 32% U.S. tariff on Indonesian exports, has disrupted supply chains and heightened the urgency for organizational agility and innovation among Tier-1 suppliers. This study examines how transformational leadership fosters organizational ambidexterity, balancing exploration and exploitation, to enhance innovation performance. Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) on data from 100 top leaders in the Indonesian automotive industry, CEOs, Vice Presidents, Directors, and Owners, findings reveal that transformational leadership significantly strengthens ambidexterity, which fully mediates its indirect effect on innovation. However, transformational leadership does not directly impact innovation outcomes, reflecting the mature, process-driven nature of Tier-1 suppliers. These results highlight the crucial role of leadership in developing ambidextrous capabilities to foster innovation and resilience within globally exposed, digitally transforming supply chains in emerging markets.
